Sophie drew a measured, calming breath. She needed to face reality, however horrible. The most likely scenario was a coma. When regular dreams veered off course, waking usually followed. Might be the same with comas? The only grating element was Hugo. Make him go away. 'I really don't like you.'

He shoved his hands in his pockets and glared. 'We hardly spoke at school. You don't know me at all.'

'Only by reputation.'

Charlotte cocked her head, unnerved by the tone change in their voices.

Hugo scowled. 'What's that supposed to mean?'

'Entitled, arrogant posh boy ... we've got nothing in common.' She clicked her fingers. 'Hallucination Hugo, disappear.' His face was a picture. Confusion, regret? It didn't matter. 'I'll wake up now.'

'You're a complete bitch. And you are awake.' He turned on his heel. 'Unfortunately, so am I.'
